2020 Sunnyside Vineyard Willamette Valley Dolcetto (Rosé?)
We have been working with this lovely Dolcetto since 2017. It is one of our favorite wines to make. Unfortunately the Acid Freak takes the lionshare of the fruit, but we make at least one barrel a year. This is that barrel.
So straight up this vineyard was heavily affected by smoke damage in 2020 due to its location in the valley.
We were a little apprehensive about even making this 100% Dolcetto due to the aforementioned issues however we’re very happy we did. The luscious and decadent fruit aromas were unaffected but the unique circumstances of the vintage peek through gently in the finish. It is not a “campfire” wine that tastes like a jacket after a weekend of partying. This beautifully maddening wine has a rich meatiness that shows itself like a fine cut of guanciale.
The fruit received a four day maceration prior to ferment but it ended up with a wild deep purple hue.
Like all our other wines, it was wild yeast fermented in neutral oak. Other than a very small amount of sulfite, absolutely nothing was added to this wine. Unfiltered and unfined.
